-
- Sounds to me like the dealer is the flakey one.
-
- Yes, some A3000's had problems on the external SCSI port because of
- manufacturing flaw which installed the termpower diode backwards. Other
- than that, there is nothing flakey about the A3000's external SCSI port.
-
- It wouldn't hurt to check the termpower line on the A3000's SCSI port.
- If you have a meter, with no external devices connected to the A3000, very
- carefully measure the voltage on pin 25 of the SCSI port. Pin 25 is the
- leftmost pin on the bottom as you look at the port from the rear of the
- computer. Pin 24 is a ground. If you have +5V there, then there is no
- problem.
-
- Before you attach an external drive you might want to also check that
- there are NO terminater packs installed on the motherboard. The majority
- of A3000's shipped without them but it's better to check.
-
- Depending on what OS version and what CDROM filesystem software you are
- using it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get a CDROM drive up and
- running on your system. Simply hook everything together observing the
- SCSI requirements for proper termination. Install the CDROM filesystem of
- choice and go.
-
- I recommend setting any existing hard drives to the lower SCSI id's and
- put the CDROM drive at ID 6.
